Checkers Clash

Play Checkers Clash now · free, no download, no sign-up
Checkers Clash is the classic 8×8 draughts game with a lot of bounce. Pieces hop in little arcs when they jump, a chain of captures gets a callout, and a crown drops onto any piece that reaches the far row. Underneath the show it is proper checkers: captures are compulsory and you keep jumping for as long as you can.
It suits anyone who grew up with a board and a box of round pieces, and anyone who wants a quick thinking game on a phone. Play the computer, a friend on the same screen or at a private online table, or work through puzzle positions against the hardest computer.
How to play
- Tap one of your pieces, then tap a highlighted dot to move it; you can also drag the piece.
- Ordinary pieces move one square diagonally forward on the dark squares.
- Jump over an enemy piece onto the empty square behind it to capture it. If a capture is available you must take it, and you carry on jumping while more captures are possible.
- Reach the far row and your piece is crowned as a king, which can also move backwards.
- You win by taking every enemy piece or leaving your opponent with no legal move.
- Switch on the flying kings rules if you like: kings then glide any distance and capture from afar, and ordinary pieces may capture backwards.
Controls
On a phone or tablet
Tap a piece and then one of the dots, or drag the piece to its square. Buttons under the board give you undo, hint and resign where the mode allows them.
On a computer
Click a piece and then a target square, or drag it with the mouse. The same undo, hint and resign buttons sit under the board.
Game modes
Vs computer
Play the computer on easy, medium or hard. Easier levels give you more undos, and a win earns more coins the harder the opponent.
2 players
Two people share one device; the board can turn round so each player sees their own pieces at the bottom.
Online
Create a private table and send the code or invite link to a friend, who joins from their own phone or computer.
Challenges
A ladder of 23 puzzle positions: win the required number of pieces within a set number of moves against the hard computer, with up to three stars each.
Tips
- Keep your back row covered for as long as you can; it stops the other side from crowning.
- When you are ahead in pieces, trade one for one: the smaller the board gets, the bigger your lead feels.
- Because captures are compulsory, you can offer a piece on purpose to drag an enemy piece into a double jump.
- Pieces on the side edges cannot be jumped, so they make safe anchors.
- Advance in pairs so each piece guards the square behind the other.
About the game
Checkers is one of the oldest board games still played everywhere, from park tables to family drawers. Checkers Clash keeps the familiar rules and adds feel: arcing hops, chain-capture combos, a falling crown and six table themes, from a tavern to a volcano, that you unlock with coins earned by winning.
On a phone the board fills the screen in portrait and every move is a tap or a short drag. On a desktop the larger board leaves more room to read the position.
