Flip Discs

Play Flip Discs now · free, no download, no sign-up
Flip Discs is the black-and-white disc game played on an 8x8 board for generations: place a disc so it traps a line of your opponent's discs, and they all flip to your colour. The board can swing from one side to the other in a single move, so no lead is ever safe.
The rules take a minute to learn, and the game rewards patience and planning. Glowing dots show every legal move, flips ripple across the board in a wave, and taking a corner earns its own little celebration, making it friendly for newcomers and satisfying for experienced players.
How to play
- Place a disc on a square where it traps one or more of your opponent's discs in a straight line between it and another of your discs.
- Lines count in all eight directions, and every trapped disc flips to your colour at once.
- If you have no legal move, you pass and your opponent plays again.
- The game ends when neither player can move, and whoever has more discs wins.
- Corners can never be flipped back, which makes them the most valuable squares on the board.

Tips
- Do not chase the most flips early; having fewer discs but more possible moves is often stronger.
- Avoid the squares right next to an empty corner, since they tend to hand the corner to your opponent.
- Try to leave your rival with few legal moves so they are forced into bad squares.
- Edges are good once you can connect them to a corner, as those discs become hard to flip.
- In the endgame, count carefully: the last few moves often decide the winner.
About the game
The disc-flipping game grew from a nineteenth-century board game and became a worldwide favourite in the twentieth. Flip Discs keeps that classic rule set intact and focuses on clear feedback, with legal-move dots, flip animations and a board that shakes on big turns.
On a phone the board fills the width of the screen in portrait, with squares large enough to tap accurately; on desktop it sits centred with room for the score. Coins from wins and puzzles unlock new boards and disc sets.
