Letter Rescue is a friendly word guessing game. A little critter is stranded on a rock in a river, and you guess the hidden word one letter at a time; every correct letter adds planks to a bridge, and every wrong one pops one of its six balloons as the river rises.
It is designed to be kind and colourful, so it suits children learning to spell as well as adults who enjoy a quick word puzzle. There are 371 words across 12 categories, a daily word and a streak to keep.
How to play
- Look at the category and the number of blanks for the hidden word.
- Guess one letter at a time; correct letters fill in and add planks to the bridge.
- Each wrong letter pops one of the critter's six balloons and the river rises a little.
- Find every letter before all six balloons pop and the critter runs home safely.
- If you are stuck, REVEAL shows a letter and CLEAR greys out three wrong keys, both for coins.
Controls
On a phone or tablet
Tap letters on the on-screen keyboard to guess.
On a computer
Type letters on your keyboard or click the on-screen keys.
Game modes
Solo
A run of rescues with words that get longer, a streak bonus and the chance to continue with extra balloons.
Daily
One word for everyone each day, with a streak.
Vs computer
Take turns: guess the computer's word, then pick a word for it to guess. It uses easy, medium or hard letter strategies, and the fewest popped balloons wins.
Two players
One player types a secret word behind a privacy screen and the other guesses, then you swap.
Tips
- Start with common vowels such as E, A and O.
- Follow up with frequent consonants like T, N, S and R.
- Use the category to think of likely words before guessing rare letters.
- Once a few letters are in, try to picture the whole word before guessing again.
- Save hints for long words late in a run, when a lost streak hurts most.
About the game
Guess-the-word-by-letters games have been played on paper for generations. Letter Rescue keeps the same logic but replaces any grim imagery with a rescue story, a bridge, balloons and a rising river.
On phones the keyboard sits under the river scene in portrait; on desktop you can type straight away. Coins unlock six critters and four river scenes.
