Voltrace is a neon anti-gravity racer. You pilot a hovering craft over three laps of a generated circuit against five computer pilots, each with its own style. Some take clean racing lines, some drive aggressively, some tuck in behind you to steal your slipstream.
Your craft speeds up on its own, so the skill is in steering, braking at the right moment and choosing when to fire your boost. Finish in the top three to move up a league, where the tracks get tighter and the rivals sharper. It suits anyone who wants quick, readable races on a phone or a computer.
How to play
- Your craft accelerates by itself; you steer left and right.
- Brake before a corner to keep the craft off the walls, since scraping a wall costs a lot of speed.
- Drive over boost pads, or ride close behind a rival, to charge your boost meter.
- Fire your boost when the meter has charge to get a burst of speed.
- Each race is three laps against five AI pilots.
- Finish in the top three to be promoted to the next league.
Controls
On a phone or tablet
Hold the left or right half of the screen to steer and hold both halves to brake. Tap the BOOST button to fire your boost.
On a computer
Steer with A/D or the left and right arrow keys, brake with S or the down arrow, and boost with Space. A gamepad works too.
Game modes
League races
Race the five AI pilots and climb the leagues. Each league brings new tracks and stronger rivals, and your best league and best lap are saved.
Tips
- Brake before a corner, not in the middle of it, and carry speed out of the turn.
- Sit behind a rival to charge your boost quickly through slipstream.
- Save your boost for the longest straight on the track.
- Keep off the walls: a scrape slows you far more than a light brake.
- Learn the pilots. RAZOR is fast but reckless and often makes mistakes.
About the game
Voltrace follows the tradition of futuristic hover racing: glowing tracks, very high speed and boost strips on the road. Every circuit is generated, so you are always reading the track rather than memorising it, and the AI pilots plan their speed for upcoming corners just as you must.
On a phone the controls are split between the two halves of the screen, so you can race with two thumbs. On a desktop the keyboard or a gamepad gives you finer control.
