Balloon Burst is the balloon stall from the fair, turned into a fast colour game on a projected wall. Bunches of balloons float upward and you pop them by throwing a soft ball, but only the right colour scores. Pop a wrong one and you lose a point, so it rewards a cool head as much as a quick arm.
The game is designed for events where a LiDAR sensor detects each ball as it hits the wall. Here on the website, a tap on your phone or a click of the mouse stands in for the ball, so you can play a quick round at home, practise for an event or show friends how it works.
How to play
- In Solo, a big banner calls out a colour; pop balloons of that colour for one point each.
- Popping any other colour costs you a point, and the called colour changes every few seconds.
- The brand balloon is worth five points to whoever pops it.
- An ice balloon slows every balloon on the wall for a few seconds.
- A bomb balloon pops the whole cluster around it; only balloons of your colour score and there is no penalty for the rest.
- Each round lasts 90 seconds and the higher score wins.
Controls
On a phone or tablet
Tap a balloon to pop it. In two-player games, player 1 taps on the left half and player 2 on the right.
On a computer
Click balloons with the mouse. For events, Space or Enter starts a round, Esc pauses and R goes back to the title.
Game modes
Solo
Follow the changing colour call for 90 seconds and avoid every other colour.
Vs computer
You pop cyan balloons while a virtual popper goes after orange ones, on easy, medium or hard.
2 players
Player 1 owns cyan and throws on the left half; player 2 owns orange on the right. Wrong pops cost a point.
Tips
- Glance at the banner before every throw in Solo; the call can change just as you let go.
- Save your best throws for bomb balloons sitting in a cluster of your colour for a big burst of points.
- Pop the ice balloon when the wall is crowded with your colour so they drift slowly into reach.
- The brand balloon counts for anyone, so in a duel it is worth grabbing even if it floats into the middle.
- When balloons of mixed colours overlap, wait a moment for a clean target instead of risking a minus point.
About the game
Balloon stalls have been a fairground favourite for generations: aim, pop, win. Balloon Burst adds a twist from colour-reaction games, where you have to read a signal and resist popping the wrong thing. The ice and bomb balloons give each round a few big moments that crowds love to watch.
On an event wall, a LiDAR sensor reports where each soft ball lands, so players simply throw and the game does the rest. On a phone the wall fits the screen in landscape and you tap; on a desktop you click, which makes it easy to try the colour rules before playing it live.
