Play Derby Dash now · free, no download, no sign-up
Derby Dash is the fairground horse race, played with a ball on a wall. Made for events, the track is projected onto a wall with a row of target holes below; players throw soft balls and a LiDAR sensor reads every hit. On this website a tap or a click stands in for a ball.
Each good throw moves your horse forward, and the race is easy to follow for a crowd of onlookers. It works for kids and adults alike and ends with a photo finish when it is close.
How to play
- Throw at a target hole to move your horse: the outer ring trots, the inner ring canters and the bullseye hole gives a gallop burst.
- A lit hot hole moves along the row; hit it for double steps.
- The golden hole fires a turbo.
- The first horse past the winning post takes the wreath, with a photo finish when it is close.
- If no one reaches the post by the buzzer, the furthest horse wins.
Controls
On a phone or tablet
Tap the target holes as if a ball had hit them.
On a computer
Click the target holes. At an event, the operator can press Space or Enter to start, Esc to pause and R to return to the title.
Game modes
Solo
Race the pace horse and a ghost of today's best run against the clock.
Vs computer
Two rival computer jockeys throw too, at easy, medium or hard.
2 players
Player one owns the holes on the left half and player two the right half.
Party
Two players plus two computer jockeys on four lanes.
Tips
- Aim for the middle hole: one gallop is worth more than two trots.
- Chase the lit hot hole for double steps.
- The golden turbo hole can win a close race on its own.
- Accuracy beats speed: a missed throw moves nothing.
- In solo, try to stay ahead of the ghost to beat today's best.
About the game
The rolling-ball horse race is a seaside and fairground favourite, where every ball in a hole moves a horse along a track. Derby Dash keeps that spirit and adds a moving hot hole, a turbo and computer jockeys so you can race even when alone.
On a phone the track runs across the screen and taps move your horse. On a projector or large display the side-on track is easy for a whole crowd to follow.
