Rock Drift

Play Rock Drift now · free, no download, no sign-up
Rock Drift is a neon space shooter where your little ship floats on real momentum. You rotate, give it some thrust and then drift, because space has no brakes. Big rocks break into two medium rocks, medium rocks into two small ones, and flying saucers cross the screen and shoot back.
It is a game for anyone who enjoys the old vector arcade cabinets, or who simply likes a clean, fast challenge with a score at the end. Waves get busier as you go, power-ups help you out, and a hyperspace jump can save you, or drop you somewhere worse.
How to play
- Turn your ship and thrust to move; it keeps drifting in the same direction until you push it another way.
- The edges of the screen wrap around, so anything leaving one side comes back on the other.
- Shoot the rocks: large ones split into two medium, medium into two small, and small ones are destroyed.
- Saucers fire at you, and the small ones aim, so take them out quickly.
- Collect power-ups for a shield, a triple shot, extra mines or an extra ship.
- Jump through hyperspace to escape a tight spot; you reappear somewhere else in the field.
Controls
On a phone or tablet
A stick on the left points and thrusts the ship; FIRE, JUMP and MINE buttons sit on the right. You can switch on auto-fire on the title screen and just steer.
On a computer
Turn with the left and right arrows or A and D, thrust with up or W, fire with Space, jump with Shift and drop a mine with E. Two players split WASD+Space and the arrows+Enter.
Game modes
Solo
Clear wave after wave for a high score and unlock new ship designs.
Daily
The same rock field for every pilot today.
Vs computer
A duel in the same field against a computer pilot on easy, medium or hard; first to five wins.
2 players
Share one device to clear waves together in co-op, or fight each other in a versus duel.
Tips
- Thrust in short taps; you keep your speed, and a slower ship is easier to control.
- Small rocks are fast but worth the most points, so clean them up before they swarm you.
- Drop a mine behind you when a rival or saucer is on your tail.
- If you find aiming and shooting hard on a phone, turn on auto-fire and concentrate on steering.
- Every 10,000 points earns an extra ship, so a careful long run pays off.
About the game
Rock Drift is inspired by the classic vector arcade games where a lone ship clears a field of drifting rocks. It keeps the inertia and the splitting rocks, and adds mines, power-ups, glowing debris, shockwaves, duels and six ship designs to unlock.
On a phone the ship is flown with a thumb stick and big buttons, and two players can each take one side of the screen. On a desktop the keyboard gives the precise turning that classic fans expect.
